New regulations on the Law on Residence
On 24 May 2010, the Government issued the Decree No. 56/2010/ND-CP to amend, supplement a number of articles of the Decree No. 107/2007/ND-CP of the Government dated 25 June 2007 on implementation of the Law on Residence.
According to the new Decree, a citizen shall register his/her permanent resident address at a lawful accommodation where he or she frequently stays. In Hanoi and Hochiminh City, each resident must have at least 5 m2 floor area for accommodation.
In addition, the Decree prohibits citizens from registering other person(s) into their residence book for making profit, registering the residence using a fake labor contract.
The Decree will come to effect from 10 July 2010. Basing on such new Decree, a citizen may not register their resident address at a house which was built unlawfully without evidence of satisfying the minimum floor area requirement.
